Khanyi Mbau is winning and she's added another victory to her belt after what has been a strong year for the TV star. Her show, Katch it with Khanyi has this week been named as South Africa's most viewed talk show. 785,000 South Africans have been tuning in to e.TV every week just to watch her exciting content.
As confirmed by TVSA, Khanyi Mbau's television show, Katch It With Khanyi tops the list of the most watched talk shows in the nation (As measured in late September.) In second place is SABC 2's Motswako with 753,000 viewers followed by Vusaseki with 687,000, Eksê: Let's Talk at 567 000 and SABC's 3 Talk with Noeleen Maholwana Nomasanquat which amassed 406 000 viewers.
Mbau and her show made their debut a year ago on Open View HD's ekasi+ channel. Despite the fact that there are no details available for how the show fared there, it clearly must have done well enough to earn a prime time slot on e.TV and ever since then the show has boomed. Monde Twala, e.tv Head of Channels mentioned that Mbau's tell-it-like-it-is mentality was a massive positive and was beneficial to the show's success.
“Khanyi Mbau’s open book policy about her life in the spotlight is a mechanism she will use to get her guests to open up about their lifestyles. Celebrity guests and the like will be able to relate to Khanyi,” he said in a press release.
Addressing a monthly magazine, Mbau said her show was distinctive on the grounds that she was not afraid to dig into the uncomfortable.
“I will use my own experiences to relate to my guests. For instance, in the case of someone like Mandoza, I know what it’s like to lose a car. I know the challenges that celebrities face because I have been there myself. We’ll explore things that no one really wants to talk about…the lingering elephant in the room.”
We got the chance to speak to Khanyi Mbau about her show when we were at e.TV's Spring Day celebrations, check out what she had to say about her show here.
