Lego releases Mzansi Celeb Lego figures

Four of South Africa’s most popular celebrities have been transformed into mini Lego people to mark the DVD release of ‘The Lego Movie’ in the country.

‘The Lego Movie’ leading man, Emmet J Brickowski, recently tweeted pictures of the five limited edition Lego versions of 5FM DJ Fresh, online radio DJ Gareth Cliff, ‘YouTube star Caspar Lee, radio and TV presenter Lee-Roy Wright, and ‘It Girl’ Bonang Matheba.

Alongside the photo of a suitably buff looking DJ Fresh, tattoos and all, Emmet tweeted: “The Studio just sent me @DJFreshSA the Minifigure, and it's no contest. Fresh is way more awesome than Batman :-)”

And on Instagram shared a pictures of “@DJFreshSA and I at a gig last night, working the decks together. It was so #Awesome.”

To which DJ Fresh responded: “Ain't no party like a #Bricksburg party!!!”

With the photo of Lego Gareth Cliff, Emmet tweeted: “Yes, I was right. @GarethCliff does look awesome as a Minifigure. Maybe he'd like to be a guest on Emmet Central?”

Gareth later retweeted a picture Emmet also posted of the DJ in a little Lego office, “getting his mojo on”.

“No doubt @Caspar_Lee looks awesome on YouTube, but he's got that look you need for the Big Screen as well :-)” Emmet wrote of Lego Caspar.

And also asked: “Hey @LeeRoyWright ! Do you think you make an awesome Lego minifigure?”

To which a trilled Lee-Roy replied: “Haha! YESSS!!”

Clearly amazed by his mini-me, he later also mused: “So Mr @EmmetJoeB and his Lego team created me as part of the pack. So detailed! Eyebrow ring, hair and everything!”

“Oh wow! @bonang_m I now see why Wyldstyle wants to be your BFF. You could be The Lego Movie 2 leading lady” Emmet tweeted with a picture of Lego Bonang, who wear the Gothic Gert-Johan Coetzee dress she wore at the 2012 You Spectacular Awards.

Besides the five mini celebrity figurines, Lego has also created a collection with three Nelson Mandela mini-figures that depict him in three district moments in his life.

These will go sold in an online auction on Mandela day, 18 July, and proceeds used to help set up Lego Educational and Play areas for the Nelson Mandela Day Library Initiative.
