It's always a sad day when an iconic radio DJ hangs up the mic and today Mark Pilgrim fans will be feeling it the most. The popular Kia Take40sa presenter announced that this would be his final week in radio and that he would be pursuing a different challenge in life. Pilgrim had been an everpresent on Highveld's airwaves for the past 9 years after he parted ways with 5FM. Eish, and we all thought that the chops and changes in radio were over!
Mark Pilgrim bid an emotional goodbye on his personal blog this week while linking new readers to a blog post from April in which he outlined his reasons for leaving South African radio.
"Why leave? It's difficult to articulate, but I equate it to when you go to someone's party. There comes a point in the evening when you know it's time to go home."
Pilgrim went on to reveal that he will be taking a stab in the Frozen Yoghurt business as he aims to open up his very first Smooch parlour. We must say, the Yoghurt industry would not have been our first thought but if Mark is investing in it he clearly sees an opportunity!
He did not, however, rule out a return to radio one day!
"Who knows, in a few years time I could pick up my radio headphones again. Never say never. "
We'd love to have you back Mark, but for now, thank you for all the wonderful radio memories!
