Maya Angelou's beautiful Mandela tribute
By Tinashe Venge on 05 December 2014 at 07:27 · Comments
Mandela's passing shocked the world on the 5th of December 2013. Now, a year later, we look back at some of the most touching tributes dedicated to uTata

Maya Angelou, who herself passed on this year, had a way with words like very few individuals in our era. Her poetry moved generations, and helped evoke emotional responses beyond the ordinary. She was a special bird, much like the person about whom the poem below was written. On the 5th of December, 2013, when tributes began to pour in for Nelson Mandela, there are just a few that I happened to come across that will stick with me for the rest of my life, and this is one of them.

The poem, entitled His Day is Done is a lasting and fitting tribute to one of the greatest heroes that the world has ever seen. Maya Angelou's poem was a poem delivered by Maya Angelou, on behalf of the American people.

One year on, and we still miss you Tata!
