Mfundi Vundla spoke to the press recently and cleared the air by revealing exactly how well Generations: The Legacy is doing.

Nope, Generations: The Legacy is not in trouble. This is according to the show’s creator and executive producer Mfundi Vundla.

Although some reports suggest that the show’s viewership has dropped to four million, Mfundi told Daily Sun that the soapie currently has five million viewers.

Speaking to the paper after an SABC quarterly review meeting, he said: “I have just had a meeting with the SABC. We reviewed the show from December to present and I have some good news. The bottom line looks good and the SABC is making some very good profit.”

He said he doesn’t know where people are getting information about the decrease in viewership. TV writer Thinus Ferreira recently reported that, the show, which once had a viewership of more than eight million, dropped to 3, 9 million viewers.

Will the popular soapie get to the top again? Yes, if people give it time.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago told Daily Sun: “People are unfair about this new Generations. It took the first Generations 20 years to reach their viewership numbers.

“This show started in December during the holiday season, then moved to SABC2 during the Afcon. It has not had a stable time on air.”

He added that it’s too soon to commenting to Generations: The Legacy’s viewership. He believes that the right time to ask about the show’s viewership is after five months, when the storyline has been built and people understand the new cast.

We think that’s a fair point. Yes, it’s Generations but we think that people need to understand that there’s a totally different cast and storyline. That’s probably why the numbers are not so great right now. Just give it time, people!
