I had the pleasure of chatting to celebrity stylist and fashion genius, Francois Louw. Now, I say 'Fashion Genius,' not out of being cheesy, but I genuinely felt underdressed as soon as I greeted Francois at our entrance a few days ago. I felt even more clueless as he effortlessly talked me through the essentials of dressing up for as big an occasion as the Metro FM Music Awards. The 14th edition of the annual ceremony takes place this Saturday, the 28th of February and as always, viewers will be tuning in an hour early. The red carpet is just as important as the show on the inside, and like we said for The Oscars, "Best Dressed" is an unofficial award on the night too!
In the first edition our four part series, Francois kicks things off by talking about Minnie Dlamini the host of this year's Awards (Zee thinks she should have co-hosted with Khune, what the heck?). We noted on our podcast last week that the decision to have Minnie as the #MMA14 host was an exciting one, but it's equally important to note that she needs to look the part too. Here's what Francois has to say about her potential outfits:

Minnie Dlamini has the perfect body type for an African woman, this is what I like to call the 'cherry body type'. It's perfectly proportioned, and when you look at it, she can almost wear anything. As host, you'll expect her in a lot of different outfits and one of the things that I expect her to be wearing is a short, but classy mini skirt.
One thing we need to look out for is the colours that she'll be wearing while she's on stage. The camera will be on her so it's very important that she wears the right colours with the right fabrics. Bold colours are very in at the moment, and I'd recommend at most two different colours. One colour would be perfect though, as long as the fabric is soft or quite stiff. She needs to consider how the outfit looks on her, especially when she's moving
I wondered aloud if Minnie Dlamini, or any other celebrity for that matter, is aware of all of these things they have to take into consideration before picking out an outfit. Francois, as a stylist should I suppose, assured me that a designer will guide their client through it.
I'm sure celebs consider this, but the perfect thing to start off with is to contact the designer. Often the celebrity is busy, learning her script (Especially the host for the night) but it's very important that she is comfortable in her outfit, otherwise it will show. She needs to be able to move freely too.
