The contenders in the ever popular MTN SAMA Record of the Year (ROY) category have been announced and it promises to be a very intense battle for the coveted golden statuette at the Sun City SuperBowl on the evening of May 11, 2013.

The MTN Record of the Year category is the only category in the MTN SAMAs where the winner is decided by the public though SMS votes. The public are given a list of 20 nominees comprising of artists, duos, or groups that dominated the airwaves in 2012, which is based on the number of times a track was played across South African radio stations.

SMS voting lines opened on 20 March at 1pm and will close 9 May at 8pm. The final five nominees will then be determined and voting lines will re-open on 10 May at 8am and the winner will be announced during the live broadcast of the MTN SAMA 19 Awards on SABC 1 after an audit process on 11 May 2013.

Fans can SMS up to a maximum of 10 times per mobile number, each vote counts and could make the crucial difference in who walks away with the MTN SAMA!
