Nando’s spoofs hungry parliamentarians

South Africa’s favourite chicken outlet - at least as far as ads go - has done it again. Nando’s released its latest ad, this time poking fun at the SABC and members of parliament. The new spot opens with what appears to be an SABC news report, comically dubbed to instead discuss the food choices at the national assembly. According to the news reader, parliamentarians were urged to stop ordering Nando’s for lunch. Her two guests express their opinion on the matter, then the report cuts to the Speaker of the House reading out the new lunch options.

"Luckily," Nando's SA senior brand manager Ashley Stansfield told Channel 24, "the combination of witty voice-over and clever (but obviously not perfect) lip synching, with a serious TV news report scenario and a walk out in parliament seems to get the funny bone going in our new campaign." He added that the bad lip-synching is fashionable, especially following the Beyonce debacle where she mimed a song during the inauguration of President Barack Obama’s second term.

"After all, it worked brilliantly with Obama and Beyonce so naturally, we felt it would be good enough for our Full Pack and Mielie Meals," said Stansfield.
