Nelson Mandela Sports & Culture Day
ZAlebs attends the Inaugurial Nelson Mandela Sports & Culture Day press conference to find out what the event will be all about come 17 August.
ZAlebs attended the Inaugural Nelson Mandela Sports & Culture Day which is set to take place on the 17th of August 2013 this historic event will see the national rugby and soccer teams play in the same stadium on the same day, to be followed by an international music concert. The aim of this event is to celebrate Nelson Mandela's vision of building national unity through sport.
Minister of Sports & Recreation Mr Fikile Mbalula assured the press that this prestigious sporting event promised to not only be a “razzmatazz” & “humdinger” occasion but also one that would aim to help fulfil Nelson Mandela’s last wish of building a Children’s Hospital in Johannesburg.
Mbalula: “This annual event is going to be awesome and in fact it’s going to be fantastic, even though the goal is focused on raising funds to build a Children’s hospital it will not only be about the money but most importantly about our nation and about our father Nelson Mandela, this Sports & Culture day is something we all should be extremely proud of” he said.
Minnie Dlamini who was the M.C of the day couldn’t avoid the Ministers jokes as he teasingly hoisted a comment about Minnie disappearing from the venue with ex-boyfriend and Chiefs goal-keeper Ithumeleng Khune (Who also "miraculously" disappeared from the conference) the Minister joked, “Minnie where are you, you’ve now disappeared with Khune, you must respect your elders”.
The media busted into laughter as a blushing Minnie protested that she was still present at the conference whilst Khune was nowhere to be seen.
Former Bafana Bafana coach Stanley “Screamer” Tshabalala announced the national Legends team who will be playing on the day, the Legends team will include:

Amongst the ZAlebrities who attended the press were legendary couple and former musicians Letha Mbulu and her husband Caiphus Semenya; Zahara who was accompanied by “The people’s poet” Mzwakhe Mbuli - both artists composed a beautiful song dedicated to Nelson Mandela which was performed at the conference for the media to hear, it’s actually a good song might we add.
ZAlebs also stopped Loyiso Bala to hear his comment about this great initiative to raise funds for the Nelson Mandela Children’s hospital and this is what he had to say:
