When it comes to maskandi music, Nkunziyembongolo is a household name.
The 64-year-old is still going strong in his genre, with his 44th album now on sale. Yes, he has 44 albums out. Crazy!
His latest offering is called Inhlanhla, with the themes surrounding the album being that of longevity and his desire to keep making music.
He told SunBuzz: “I thought I was too old to continue singing as I’m already getting my pension grant, but I realised that I should never quit because I love music.
“I’m the king of maskandi and I’m also a leader of the people in my village. I will never quit music because it runs in my blood.”
Nkunziyembongolo has been releasing music since 1971, meaning his 44 years in the industry is almost double the age of some of 2015's biggest stars.
“These days it’s rare to sing maskandi up until my age. Most of the singers don’t make it to age 60 and above,” he added.
