Reviews: #OPW: Celebrating love, union and… spinning cars
By Minenhle Khoza on 11 August 2015 at 12:41 · Comments
We take a look at last Sunday’s episode of Our Perfect Wedding, the closest we’ve come to a perfect wedding this season.

Is it weird that, more often than not, the most boring weddings on #OPW are usually the most perfect? Is it wrong that as the viewers, we secretly long for some horrendous cake, dress, décor, kiss, or suit that will make the wedding anything but perfect, giving us something to talk about?

Unfortunately for us, this week’s episode gave us very little in the way of mishaps and embarrassing moments. It was, dare we say, perfect.

This week’s couple was 31-year-old Mandla Mnguni (who loves spinning cars just as much as he loves his lady) and 29 year-year-old Ntombifuthi Mtsweni. Their's is a story of trial, tribulation, breaking up, getting back together, breaking up again, and getting back together again – but this time for keeps. The couple have known each other since childhood, and despite losing contact, failed relationships and having their own separate children, they always find their way back to each other. Can we get a collective ncawww?

There wasn’t a lot wrong with this wedding. Ntombifuthi was a stunning bride and she chose a dress that wasn’t too tight, yet still managed to show all the right parts of her body. We’ll ignore the strange situation she had going on with her eyebrows (or lack thereof) for now. Mandla’s suit was good as well. Simple, elegant, and it fit him well too. Heck, it even got a nod from Maps Maponyane on Twitter.

Initially, the cake had us worried. It seemed like they couldn’t settle on just one flavour, so instead they chose every flavour imaginable (we might be exaggerating). The couple went with two layers of fruit cake, a layer of red velvet, a layer of chocolate, and another of vanilla. Despite its eclectic mix of flavours, the cake turned out really well. The gold décor was faultless too, no criticism from us.

In the space of one ad break, we went from classy and memorable to ratchet and forgettable. We kid you not. In the blink of an eye, what we thought was our perfect wedding had turned into our ungovernable street bash.

Orchestrated revving of cars, blocking off streets, and even a short appearance from the police left us stunned. Luckily, this didn’t last long as order was restored when the couple made their way to the celebrations held at the bride’s family home.

All in all, this was a great wedding. It gets 7/10 from us. It would have scored higher had it not been for those few minutes of random ratchetness.
