R.Mashesha might be gone, but his famous verses will live on forever. We highlight some of our favourite verses from the late artist.

On Thursday afternoon, family and friends of R.Mashesha will celebrate his life in a memorial ceremony, which is set to take place at the eThekwini Community Church in Durban.

Sadly, not many of his fans will be able to attend the memorial service, but we at ZAlebs thought the best way to remember the magnificent Dollar R is to share some of our favourite verses from the man himself.

As part of Big Nuz, R.Mashesha had the whole of South Africa on its feet during the festive season with the smash hit, Serious, but it was not only the chorus that had many stomping their feet, but also R.Mashesha’s laid back verse that would really have you cracking a smile even when you were desperately trying to be serious.

R.Mashesha’s verse on Serious

Asphinde futhi sphathe abantu abahle

Besithi siyayi dalela futhi siyiphathe kahle

Yekele ubuserious

Hey I’m counting, 1,2,3,4

Aaah! We lounging

Heh, we living

Awu television

It might not make sense reading it, but when you hear R.Mashesha reciting this verse, you cannot help but think that the guy was one smooth operator.

R.Mashesha’s verse on Inazo

Sir Bobzen, shaya lento

Awu ba campaine, ngathi ukheso

Asiqiniseni umthetho

Babone kahle ukhuthi ithina sphethe umswenko

Sabo ice cream, sa bo ma sweety

Siyabiza, highest bid

What you want, what you need

You’ve done it, sho, mina I’ve did it!

Out of this entire song it was the last line that had us bowing to R.Mashesha's effortless lyrical prowess. 'You've done it, sho mina I've did it!'. Lol! R.Mashesha was the best.

R.Mashesha’s verse on Lengoma

Sukhuma ujaiva lengoma im’nandi

Igcwele ifunky, kwa vuka iparty

Awu bhiza nathi,

iy’takathi, zase M’lazi, awu wena uyazi

Kwa vutha iy’khota

Kwa dlala Umshoza…

Kwa khala ityre

Futhi asis' buyi

Awu sifuna imali, and asilali!

Rest In Peace, R.Mashesha. You might be gone, but you shall forever live on in your verses.
