Miss Buttons, our resident style expert, met up with Durban dynamite Pixie Bennet...
The little Durban dynamite, Pixie Bennet, was spotted in her hometown recently while shooting her upcoming music video. I had to track her down for a little catch up. We talk style, what’s on her Christmas wish list and life in Jozi….
First of all, how has Jozi been treating Durban’s favourite daughter?
Ah! It's been really awesome, I never thought I would say that! I love the energy; the people work hard and play hard. I am inspired and motivated and driven up here. It feels wonderful to be able to see the fruits of that hard work, two years down the line after the move.
Rumour has it you’re releasing a new music vid soon. Tell me everything. Where did you shoot it? What’s the concept? What was your favourite outfit?
I shot it down in Durban with IKind Media. I’ve worked with them in the past and loved their professionalism! I also used people I knew to act in the video, wanting to capture the individuality of each person, their movements, shapes and personality on screen. We shot with a new Sony NEX FS700, a super slow motion camera that created mood and suspense. I even learnt some choreography on an Aerial silks hammock for a sexy sultry scene that we intercut to.
Parooz Fashions did all the styling and my favourite outfit was the master shot where I was singing to camera, wearing high wasted American flag shorts, a red crop top under a black blazer with raised shoulder pads, killer heels and a statement necklace.
We’re releasing the video online this month and to TV and radio in Jan. In March I’ll launch the full album after people can recover from the festive season! (laughs)
You’re a busy lady, what are you doing to chill out this season?
I moved to a plot 15 minutes north of Joburg, a little slice of the Midlands- it's really quaint! So I try to spend as much time there as I can with my dogs just enjoying the space.
How do keep the sultry night owl look from creeping into your fresh morning look after a late night show?
I never sleep with my make-up on and I try to have a Re-Hydrate before I go to bed if ‘ve been drinking.
You always look so cute and have your own unique stamp on style. How about sharing some of your style secrets?
I've always loved bold pieces or colour incorporated into my dress sense. I get all my clothes from Parooz Fashions because they have a wide range of statement items that I am simply drawn to!
Where are your favourite places to shop?
Parooz Fashions, Melissa Shoes and Cotton On.
What pieces are you loving this summer?
Statement necklaces, Melissa Dance Hit pumps and crop tops.
What’s your ideal holiday outfit?
Denim shorts, loose crop top and Melissa Dance Pumps.
What current trends aren’t going to make into your wardrobe?

What’s on your Christmas wish list?

Well there you have it peeps!
