Interviews: Prince learns that The Hustle is all about business

The latest eliminated contestant from The Hustle admits that the music industry is more about the business than the music at times.

As one of the youngest rappers to have participated in the first season of The Hustle, Prince had more to learn than most on the show, and he was sadly eliminated on Tuesday night. Following his exit, he told ZAlebs that he learned a lot from the newest hip hop show on South African television.

The Grade 12 student also revealed that not only was joining the competition the best decision he’s made thus far, but that The Hustle has also taught him a great deal about the business side of music.

“It was really about the experience, especially considering that I’m still in high school. Jumping onto this opportunity was the best experience of my life. What I also realised is that in the music industry the business side is actually more crucial than the music side, because it’s about building yourself as a brand. And that has taught me to balance my focus when it comes to my music and my business - which both equally affect my brand.”

Prince admitted that the reason he got eliminated from the competition was because he couldn’t handle some of the new challenges the competition threw at him.

“I think I was always focused and in the zone, I had what it took to go all the way. The problem is that I couldn’t handle some of the challenges better than the other guys. Most people thought it was the nerves but I just couldn’t memorise some of the stuff," he added.

Prince has also cited interest in working with the likes of Khuli Chana and Tumi in the near future. We wish the young rapper nothing but the best with his future endeavours.
