Youth Day celebrations in Mpumalanga turned ugly after Kwaito star Professor failed to pitch up for an event he’d already been paid a deposit for! Musa Nkuna, owner of the event company Faka Ukshisa who were responsible for booking Professor, approached Sowetan Live after being informed only a week before the event that Professor would not be attending.
Nkuna had this to say about the incident:
“When I was about to pay another R15 000 on Monday, Scotch turned on our agreement asking me to reschedule the gig, he told me that Professor had been booked for a government gig therefore he cannot make it to our event on time, but we had initially booked him first.’’
Scotch Mathenga, Professor’s manager, was then contacted by Sowetan Live who reported that Mathenga did not know of any Mpumalanga event booked for Professor but later confirmed that he and Faka Ukshisa were still in discussions about Professors appearance. However, when the 16th of June came around, Professor was nowhere to be seen at the Mpumalanga gig and all hell broke loose leaving Nkuna with the responsibility of having to answer to an angry crowd of Professor fans who came to see their favourite Kwaito star.
‘’Everything I feared happened, people paid R150 to see Professor perform, when they heard he was not coming they vandalised the venue and even threw a bottle on my head,” Said Nkuna
Sowetan Live managed to get in contact with Professor who explained to the publisher that bookings which have been paid in full receive first preferences to that of companies who have only paid a deposit. He further went on to explain that no one speaks to him directly about bookings and that he doesn’t handle such information.
Nkuna is yet to be refunded for his first payment.
