Q&A with DJ duo Pascal & Pearce

After a chance meeting in 2007, Pascal Ellinas and Dave Pearce began the long winding road that is now the stellar production and DJ duo of Pascal & Pearce. ZAlebs chatted to the duo to find out how they get their pure potency on the dance-floor.

Do you have stage name?
Pascal & Pearce

What gave you that initial push? Did the Djing, production or promoting come first?
Pascal was a DJ and Dave was into production.

Who's throwing the best parties at the moment?
In this country, probably G&G or Electric.

Which other countries have you played in?
We've played in Mauritius, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Tanzania and the UK.

What was the first event you ever played at?
Electrocure at Tempos in Johannesburg, 1 May, 2008.

What's the best event you've played at?
Probably the Swedish House Mafia gig in Cape Town earlier this year!

What was your first record you bought?
For Dave it was Benny Benassi's Satisfaction, and for Pascal it was DJ Quicksilver - Bellissima.

Out of all the tunes you have, which one 'never fails’ to get people dancing?
Tough one... we always try keep our sets fresh so they're constantly changing. But anything from Showtek always goes down well.

What's your favourite tune of all time?
Way too difficult to pick one!

When you play is it a pre-planned set or do you wing it?
We always wing it... for bigger sets, festivals, etc. we will often make special edits, and discuss beforehand what we want to play. But we just go with the flow, often we end up playing completely different stuff to what we planned!

When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?
-Xbox and Play Station, Fifa and Pro Evo, watching and playing soccer, and chilling with mates!

How big is your vinyl collection? What do you think of CDJ's?
Pascal has a good vinyl collection. We always play off CDJs, mostly using USB sticks... a lot more reliable!

Funniest thing that ever happened at an event?
The DJ before us at an outdoor event stage dived, and cleared the security barrier by literally about 2 inches... head first into a group of girls.

Other DJs you rate?
Crazy white boy! Riot Squad, Royal K, Nick Supply, Grimehouse - this country has lots of talent.

What do you do outside of the dance music scene?
We're kept pretty busy, between gigs and production but we both love soccer and tend to watch and play quite a bit.

What advice would you give to up and coming DJs/Promoters?
To the DJs, if you’re going to play off a laptop, learn to play off CDJs first. Practise makes perfect.

How can fans connect with you on social media?
Facebook and Twitter, both /pascalandpearce. And our website is www.pascalandpearce.com - new one coming soon

Where will you be playing next?
A lot of big gigs coming up soon like Wet & Wild and H20 to name a few!
