Kwaito star Brickz Mabrigado appeared in court on Monday afternoon, after being arrested on rape charges on Friday.
According to the City Press, Brickz “threw his hands in the air and wept” when his case was postponed in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The artist, whose real name is Sipho Charles Ndlovu, was taken into custody on 1 November, for charges brought against him some six months ago by a 16-year-old who says he raped her in Honeydew on 26 March.
With his case postponed until 12 November, the singer will be spending eight more days behind bars.
“Rape is a Schedule 6 offence which is a very serious case,” said National Prosecuting Authority of South Gauteng spokesperson Phindi Louw.
She also explained that the State will be opposing the musician’s application for bail.
A multi award-winning artist, 32-year-old Brickz was discovered by renowned SA producer DJ Cleo and is considered one of the bad boys in kwaito, with a history of drug use and trouble with the law.
He shot to fame after the release of his 2006 debut album Face Brick, with includes the popular single Sweety My Baby.
