Reviews: #OPW: The 13-year-old wedding planner

When a 13-year-old plans his parents' wedding, what does one expect? Disaster or a well planned ceremony?

This week’s couple, Ntombizodwa, 35, and Doctor, 40, decided to be unconventional and bold by trusting their 13-year-old son to plan their wedding. We're not sure how much his minimal experience contributed to the event. But whatever the case may be, we feel like trusting a 13-year-old with such a huge task is a bit dicey, unless you treat a wedding like another kitchen party?

Fortunately for the parents, their son managed to meet their expectations. Thato was tasked with choosing his mom’s wedding gown and he went for two white dresses, but we didn’t like any of them. The dresses lacked pizzazz and there was nothing eye-catching about them, but it’s understandable, after all it’s a choice made by someone who doesn’t have an idea about the current trends on wedding dresses and probably still has two decades to go before thinking about his own wedding.

For some reason, the groom didn’t trust his son to find him the perfect suit and we salute him for that. Unlike the dreadful shiny suits we are accustomed to, Doctor went for a nice, non-shiny suit. He looked exactly like someone who wanted to be stylish and snazzy on their wedding day.

Like the groom, his entourage didn’t miss the mark and nailed it. They looked dapper in their navy blue suits, even though the bow tie was purple.

We have officially developed an allergy to this colour.

Unfortunately, the bridesmaids were victims of shiny material overload, and made it even worse by having it in purple. But when are people going to stop buying this type of material and also leave the color alone?

As much as Ntombi and Doctor made sure that everything went according to plan, nothing would have prepared them for the bad service they got from the lady they hired to do the décor and catering. Besides coming late, everything she did wasn’t what was requested, from the food, draping, and the layout of the tent. Such people are like a car with no wheels, good for nothing.

Even though the newlyweds were disappointed by the catering service, at least they still managed to smile and hit the spot with their traditional outfits.

This was one part of the wedding we think was definitely not the idea of a 13-year-old. In short, the outfits definitely made the Ndebele’s and Xhosa’s proud of their culture.

The wedding deserves an eight out of ten! The other two were lost due to the makoti and her entourage’s dresses -  there was nothing nice about them. Plus we are tired of the purple colour.
