If you were looking for the patriciate of the film and television industry, you simply had to look around the room at the 10th South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) held at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg last night (20 March 2016).
The second night of the SAFTAs kicked off with an amazing and lively performance from Maboe, JSomething and Fifi Cooper.
The excellence and magic of SA’s film and television were celebrated in fitting style and grandeur.
The second night of the SAFTAs had a lot to live up to after the excitement of the first awards night on Friday 18 March, and there was no disappointment. Audience favourite and newcomer Umlilo continued its winning streak with honors for Best TV Drama.
The only other Golden Horn not voted for by the judges was presented to Skeem Saam. TV fans voted for the Best TV Soap Award via SMS and Skeem Saam’s win is a testament to the show’s continued dominance.
However, it seems like some people were not pleased about the show winning best TV Soap category as they don't think the TV show is a soapie.
Skeem Saam is definitely not a soapie... #SAFTAS10

It's tough to answer but Skeem Saam is a daily so it falls into the category of soapie. I would assume. https://t.co/1OdB5rKCQa

However, we cannot deny that Skeem Saam is one of the most popular weekday show on television, whether it's a Soap or not is a debate people will have for the rest of the week.
Other people that made news from the SAFTA awards were the likes of DJ Arch Jnr who closed off the award ceremony with a great performance.
The 4-year old DJ began trending for the amazing talent that he has, however as always, there were those who were hating on the little guy, questioning whether he really knows how to DJ.
Thankfully there were those who defended and believes in the toddlers talent.
Dj Arch makes more money than me and we don't even know if he's potty trained or really playing. Life. pic.twitter.com/elyDjHOsTc
