Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa's wife Mandisa has spoken up about forgiving her husband for his affair with singer and baby mama Kelly Khumalo, who recently gave birth to their baby girl.
The couple agreed to meet Drum magazine for an interview, during which Senzo owned up to the fact that he lied to both his wife and his mistress, and Mandisa spoke about the difficulty of taking him back.
Senzo's affair with Afro-pop singer Kelly, the birth of their baby girl, and her catfight with Mandisa has been the subject of much tabloid gossip, but the football player claims that they've put it all behind them and are ready to move on from what he admits were bad choices on his part.
Bravely opening up about her husband's very public affair, Mandisa told the publication that she knew about his adultery before the media discovered it.
"They'd already been in a relationship for two months," said the 27-year-old wife, who found out about her husband's affair when a colleague suggested she take a look at Kelly's Instagram account.
"When I saw pictures of them looking cosy I got the shock of my life. I was heartbroken and cried hysterically. I called Senzo and told him to respect me as a wife but he denied he was having an affair with Kelly."
Senzo has admitted that he lied to both his wife and to Kelly, who he initially fell for at the Feather Awards, during a time when he claims things weren't going so well at home.
"I was in Cape Town in March last year when the national team and I was watching the Feather Awards with my teammate Daine Klate," said the 26-year-old keeper.
"When I was watching I saw my homegirl (Rhythm City actress) Lucia Mthiyane with Kelly Khumalo, who was wearing a long red dress.
"I couldn't take my eyes of her - I was attracted to her immediately. I phoned Lucia straight away and asked her to hook me up. She was hesitant at first but she called Kelly for permission and then gave me her details."
According to Senzo, Kelly was initially reluctant to have a relationship, but that he eventually "won her heart". He admits that he told her he was single, and that she only found out he was married five months later.
One pregnancy, a heated highway altercation, and a break-up later, Senzo eventually realised he'd made a mistake.
"Senzo came to me in October last year, apologising for hurting me," Mandisa explained.
"It wasn't easy at first to forgive him. I went for counselling and my family and the elders at church were very supportive. Their words of wisdom helped me to become stronger day by day.
"Eventually I let the pain go because I realised he had made a mistake and was showing remorse. I agreed to give it a second try".
