SONA 2014: Fashion hits and misses

This might have been the most interesting #SONA yet. Well not the address , but the fashion of course. Lights, camera, action, the entrance of Parliament in Cape Town was turned into a red carpet affair as members of Parliament arrived for President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation Address.

DA parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko wore a Kat van Duinen silk dress and a clutch bag by Missibaba. But for many viewers, it looked like Mazibuko was late for her wedding. Shame, Mazibuko's designer gown was harshly criticised.

A high five goes to Public Protector Thuli Madonsela who looked like a Hollywood actress in a dazzling, full-length golden gown.

Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba wore an SA Airways pilot uniform. Maybe he wants to fly SAA?

ANC MP Gloria Borman wore a colourful African outfit with matching headscarf.

Western Cape Premier Helen Zille was dressed in a lime-green, beaded ball gown. She was accompanied by her husband, Johann Maree.

The showstopper went to ANC Arts and Culture Portfolio Committee chairwoman, Thandile Sunduza. We love that she is proud of her baby bump. Pregnant women are sexy! However, did the dress do anything to bring out her preggie glow? No. We are still trying to figure out what she was thinking when she left the house.

She showed off her baby bump in a yellow strapless short dress which she had designed herself.

The red carpet was crowded with big hats, shimmering sequins, bright ball gowns and designer names.

Former Minister of Communications, Dina Pule, infamous for often walking on the wild side on Christian Louboutin red soles, wore a gold, silver, turquoise and chocolate brown dress by St John and high heels sandals by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Rachel Tambo embraced her African side and wore a Western-meets-Africa look with a dress made by Sun Goddess in turquoise Shweshwe and matching hat.

And which Zuma wife wore it best? We have to give the crown to Thobeka Madiba Zuma. She looked classy and sexy in dressed in red. she chose an off-the-shoulder fitted knee-length dress.

Shame though, we wonder what MaKhumalo Zuma had to say to Jacob after the speech. We can't say much about her outfit, but her pearls were nice.

Winne Mandela also graced the red carpet, dressed in black lace, a matching black scarf wrapped around her head. Mandla Mandela and his wife Nodiyala went traditional head to toe, they even brought props along.

ANC Member of Parliament Pinky Mncube opted for Indian attire. She looked lovely in purple, while Patricia de Lille, accompanied by Mmusi Maimane, played it safe in a white suit. We loved her shoes  bag. Nice colour matching there!

After this week's march, DA Member of Parliament Patty Duncun decided to show she really does love South Africa by wearing the flag on her chest.

Deputy President Kgalema Mothlante and his partner Gugu Mtshali looked bored with each other and their outfits.

One of the best-dressed pairs were kwaito producer Arthur Mafokate and singer Chomee. She wore a dazzling hip-hugging silver-lined dress, him a classic suit and a pert bow-tie. Maybe they have a career in politics. Arthur for president and Chomee the Minister of Dance.
