Zalebs held an exclusive one on one with Lindiwe Maxolo to have her share some thoughts on her new debut album, "Time" Having been compared to the likes of Thandiso Mazwai, she's been slowly making an impact in the South African music industry. Let's see what she had to say:
What frame of mind were you in when producing your album “Time” as many reviews have described the album as “exuberant and soulfully jazzy”
I wanted to be true to myself, write/sing about my past experiences(beautiful and not so beautiful), to also write/sing about love in all the spheres of life. And I wanted my sound to be Acoustic as it brings the different sense of live music.
Where do you draw your musical inspiration from, and who are some of your influences?
I draw inspiration from Jazz music and World music e.g Abbey Lincoln, Terrence Blanchard, Eddie Jefferson, Mam Busisiwe
Mhlongo, Rachell Ferrell, Roy Hargrove, Omou Sangare, Tania Maria, Sarah Vaughn, John Colrane, Ella Fitzgerald the list goes on.
Some of the music on "Time" has been compared to the likes of Thandiswa Mazwai, Simphiwe Dana and Sibongile Khumalo, how does that make you feel being associated with such legendary names in the industry?
Wow, I feel honored and humbled. I always admired and love them so much for making our South African music so Beautiful and putting us on the map as Mama Miriam Makeba paved the way for us.
I still perform Mama Sibongile Khumalo's songs even today.
Are you holding any shows where people can see you perform and hear some of the tracks on "Time"?
