Interviews: Sthandwa Nzuza: Ukhozi FM's rising star

ZAlebs chatted to Ukhozi FM presenter Sthandwa Nzuza about being a young mother and having a very demanding career in radio.

Ukhozi FM radio personality Sthandwa Nzuza says that although she is part of one of the biggest radio stations in the country, she still feels she has a lot of growing to do as a presenter.

ZAlebs had a chat with the bubbly radio personality, who is also a new mother.

In our culture, parents expect women to complete studies, start working, get married and have a child. What do you think of this?

(Laughs) Well, I have done it all except for getting married, and having a child does not mean it’s a ticket to get married. A child and marriage is a blessing from God, people should wait for the right time.

For those who do not know of your show, tell us more about your show on Ukhozi FM?

I host a show called Bumpa to Bumpa on Friday early morning, from 2h00 to 4h00, and again in the evenings for a show that airs between the hours 20h00 to 23h00. On Friday I host Vulisekela from 22h00 to 2h00. I also want to grow in radio and probably host a midday show, but in the meantime, I am giving all my energy to the three slots I am doing.

While doing the evening shows on radio, who looks after your baby?

I am so grateful to have support from my mother and grandmother, but when I am not working, I make sure to look after my child. I am a new mother and I enjoy every single moment of it. It is a full time job but I love it.

We’ve seen you do a couple of stints on television. How’s your acting career going so far?

Oh yes! I’ve acted on Mthunzini.com, Single girls and Iphupho. Like I said, I am also growing in the industry. I’m hoping to get huge gigs like Uzalo in future.

You’ve also partnered with the Lux brand recently. What’s going on between you and the brand?

I was chosen with the other seven women to be part of their campaign, 8hours of Bold. Other than promoting the brand it is about encouraging women to face and overcome challenges. As ambassadors we will also be doing challenges that we have been scared of doing, we would be showing our boldness. People can also enter a competition to be part of it.
