What do you think separates Club 808 from other music shows on television?
First and foremost it’s presented by two radio jocks who know the ins and outs of the music industry – Mo and I are not just presenters. Club 808 is also about just going out there showcasing field reports of the hottest places where people are partying at, and if you’re not partying we show you where you should be partying at! We also play the latest local music videos.
What’s your take on local music videos – are our standards world class?
I think we have grown so much. If you like at videos from the likes of AKA and Danny K, you can actually see that our artists are really working hard to deliver quality work, not only in their music but visually too. This is really great because we as the public will also start taking them more seriously as artists.
If you could pick one music video you’d like to feature in, which one would it be?
(Laughing) None, unless I was like booty hopping next to Beyoncé
Many young females in the entertainment industry receive a lot of flak purely because they’ve made a success of themselves in this cut throat industry. What’s your advice in overcoming criticism from the public?
I think we all have this ‘’’put me down syndrome” which I don’t understand, especially when a black female succeeds in the industry we’re all up in arms protesting as to why she’s so popular. I feel that if you give congratulations where it’s due good things will come to you as well. The best way to overcome criticism is to just continue doing extraordinary work. Let your craft speak for itself and eventually people will stop bringing you down and actually start to appreciate your work.
Tonight is the very first night that you’ll be presenting the show! Do you know what you’ll be wearing yet?
I have a stylist who goes by the name of Mimi, she owns a fashion label called Spunk. She’s really great! She’s new and because I’m also fairly new to the industry, I wanted to work with an up-and-coming stylist. So to answer your question, I’m going to be wearing something from Spunk!
Don't miss Club 808, Fridays at 7:30PM, moving Saturdays at 6.30PM from 6 July.
