It’s the end of the road for M-Nets daily soapie The Wild. The soapie’s final episode will air this Thursday.
Last year, the channel announced the termination of the show after it was revealed that the soapie had pretty poor audience ratings. It’s such a sad situation considering the fact that the show was billed as “the most expensive South African-made soapie” and filming in high definition did absolutely nothing for the ratings.
M-Net spokesman Lani Lombard informed Times Live that the ratings weren’t the only problems the show was facing.
“The ratings have grown steadily but not in line with the company’s investment. Secondly, the land bought for The Wild faced rezoning challenges that would take years to resolve.”
“This left the production with no permanent home. Renting or acquiring a location to continue with the soap and maintain its extremely high production values was not a viable financial option,” said Lombard.
Many of the shows cast members are already venturing into new projects that are already being screened on television. Tumisho Masha’s series Isibaya is currently airing on Mzansi Magic on Mondays and power couple Shona and Connie Ferguson are in the process of signing a new show that is also to be aired on Mzansi Magic. Rumour has it that co-stars from The Wild, Minnie Dlamini and Gail Mabalane, will also be starring in the Fergusons’ new show. Talk about keeping it in the family...
