If you had asked DJ Roxxi a few weeks ago what she'd be doing on a Monday night, the last thing she would have said was “Hanging with Gerard Butler”. She chats to ZAlebs about her exciting adventure! 

Although I knew weeks in advanced that both Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart would be in town for the Olympus has fallen movie premiere, I never imagined that it was going to turn into such a cool experience – meaning actually hanging with the crew!

So where did it all start?

Well, Rosebank came alive on Monday night (08.04.13) as both Butler and Eckhart made a special appearance at the premiere courtesy of Ster-Kinekor. Zalebs such as Jennifer Su, Boity, Mika Stefano, Locnville, Eda Rose and even a few of the Mr South Africa contestants added to the glitz and glam on the night.

Hoards of fans pitched up to catch a glimpse of these two dishy actors! After what seemed like the longest walk down the red carpet, Gerard and Aaron joined MC Anele Mdoda on stage for a quick chat.

After pictures, an impromptu marriage proposal from a fan and questions, the stars where ushered into a plush VIP area while the crowd filled the theatres to finally watch the must hyped about movie Olympus has fallen.

Now I won’t go into full movie review mode but lets just say this one will leave you on the edge of the seat!.With a stellar supporting cast featuring Angela Bassett and Morgan Freeman, the movie is a suspense thriller in true big budget Hollywood style!

Coffee, crew and one Butler!

After the movie, my crew and I were fortunate enough to be invited to a private hang-out with Gerard and his team in Sandton. Trying to block out his megastar power presence I was honoured to have a quick chat with the action star. Humble, modest and THAT accent aside, I learnt that Gerard also produced the movie and that he is based in New York most of the time. He also loves Cape Town but don’t worry, Jozi is on the list as well! 

Also chilling with his crew, I absolutely fell in love with David (hairstylist) who bears a striking resemblance to Roger Goode! We chatted about everything from music and movies to lions (this always happens) and clothing. Who knew that the evening could end off with us taking David and a few of the crew shopping in Jozi before they depart?  Sigh, Hollywood does that to you! His team were thrilled to be in South Africa after the premiere in Europe, and loved the warm hospitality here.

The party continues…

The next day (09.04.13) The Vip Room in Sandton held the official after-party. We were fortunate enough to hang with Gerard (sadly no Aaron) and his team in a private booth at the club. With entrance by password and heavy security I felt as if I was on set on the new Bond movie! Spotted at the club were also VIP’s such as Vanessa Carerria and Boity Thulo. 

The team loved the local South African music and in true Butler fashion hoards of female fans scrambled to get pics of him at the club. He was a gracious host and boy does he know how to dance!

Leaving on a jet plane…
The crew jet off to Mexico today (10.04.13) for another round of red carpet movie premiere magic. Having made a few good new friends, it will be sad to see them leave but hey, Mexico, you guys are in for a treat. Now to finish off the rest of the week and it’s not even the weekend...Must be the Gerard effect!
