We are six days away from the MTV EMA's and, heck, we may as well tell you the good news:
ZAlebs is going to be in Glasgow this week to cover one of the biggest events on the global musical calendar: The MTV European Music Awards. We'll be taking SA's most iconic celebrity at the moment, none other than Queen B' herself, Bonang Matheba (Who's doing some delightful things with Ciroc too!).
This will be the first time that ZAlebs ventures overseas for an event and to say that we're excited is an understatement. With just under a week to go until the big night in Glasgow, we decided to shed some spotlight on this year's MTV EMAs so you can see who is nominated in which category, who's performing, how the night will shape up and everything else you need to know ahead of this year's awards.
The Host:
If you saw our video last week, you will know that the host of this year's MTV EMAs is none other than Anaconda and Tribe One Festival star (I'm teasing, I know I'm mean) Nicki Minaj. I still raise my eyebrows when I hear that a rapper will be hosting an awards show (They are either too cool for school, like Jay Z, or completely incoherent when speaking the English language, like Soulja Boy, Chief Keef and Future). But Nicki is a good fit. Having judged American Idol, starred in films, it's clear there's more to her than just the rapper title.
Performers
As usual, the performances will be one of the key highlights at these awards shows. I'm particularly excited to see Ed Sheeran performing live. The British star has had a strong year following the release of his second studio album, x. Host, Nicki Minaj, will also be performing while the "it" girl of pop music, Ariana Grande will be hoping to give us a real Bang Bang on stage. Calvin Harris, Enrique Iglesias, Charlie XCX will also be performing.
Sources of Controversy
Nicki Minaj is the host, but we'll be keeping our eye on Iggy Azalea and Snoop Dogg. The two haven't been getting along extremely well in recent times and maybe Snoop is looking to get back to his gangsta ways. Watch out though Snoop, Iggy is "Still in the murder business and she can hold it doooown, like she givin' lessons n physics!"
