What’s Hot: Thina Sobabili hoping to inspire

One of the film’s lead actors, Richard Lukunku, said that he is thrilled at the prospect of South Africans finally getting the chance to watch the film, adding that he hopes the film’s subject matter will inspire viewers to discuss issues relating to child and domestic abuse.

“In a lot of black households, you don’t deal with your problems.  You just sweep it under the carpet instead of dealing with it and it hurts you in the future,” Richard told CliffCentral on Tuesday.

“It’s about child abuse.  A lot of child abuse happens in the movie and people don’t talk about it.  In households where abuse takes place, nobody talks about it.  What we want the audience to take away from the movie is to talk about it, shout, say something.

“If we don’t know that you are going through something hectic, nothing will be done about it, but if you speak out, something can be done.  That is the first step,” he added.

The movie, which also features actress Busisiwe Mtshalli, received two Audience Choice Awards at both the Jozi Film Awards and the Pan African Film and Art Festival.
