Time For Tea: Angry Xhosas, Zuma’s number woes
By Tamlyn Canham on 16 October 2015 at 08:59 · Comments
It was a tough week for the male species this week, with “Black Twitter” putting not one, but three men in their place – including the president!

Now, this is a story all about how Maps Maponyane’s life got flipped, turned upside down.

We were chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool, when Maps started making trouble in the Twitter neighbourhood.

He made one little tweet, and Black Twitter got mad, and said you moving to “You Got Served-ville” with Siya Nyezi and President Jacob Zuma.

Maps Maponyane unleashed the wrath of Black Twitter, or should we say “Xhosa Twitter”, when he TRIED to be funny by tweeting: “I just read the word “Xhosa” is derived from the Khoisan language and means ‘angry men’. It all makes sense.” He also added a frog and a cup of tea emoticon. Sorry, Maps, but next to Kermit the Frog, we’re the only ones serving that tea.

Maps was forced to take several seats after Tweeps put him in his place before he could even take one sip of that tea.

Next time, leave the tea spilling to us, Maps!

While Maps will no doubt recover from his comedy stint gone bad, we’re not so sure about Siya Nyezi.

Who is Siya? Honestly, we had no idea who he was until Black Twitter joined forces to fight against domestic abuse.

Siya, who apparently is a tweleb with over 20, 000 followers, was accused of being abusive by a woman named Pearl, who shared her experience on Twitter. #Pearl and #Siya were soon trending on Twitter.

Her friends joined the conversation, saying Pearl was scared to report the alleged abuse because she did not want a criminal record to ruin his career.

She reportedly did file a complaint about the matter, and even more women came forward with their stories of abuse.

While many tweeps demanded Siya respond to the allegations and/or get fired, others made a joke of the situation and even tried to justify the alleged abuse.

Some people even went as far as to open fake social media accounts to add fuel to the flames. See screenshot in tweet below (fake account not created by tweeter).

Siya is yet to respond to the claims, but it seems his legal team is working on addressing the fake accounts started in his name. We hope to hear his side of the story soon.

President Jacob Zuma got Twitter excited this week when a video of him speaking at the ANC’s recent National General Council went viral.

Msholozi was trying to address delegates about the party’s membership numbers, but he had trouble reading out the figures.

“We announced that our membership figures stood at seven hundred and sixty-nine, eight hundred…listen properly, seven hundred and sixty-nine thousand, eight hundred and twenty (clears throat), and seventy members down from 100 and 100-point two million in 2012.”

It’s not the first the president has messed up his numbers, remember this?

But Destiny Man magazine did a little test in their office, that proved that reading long numbers is not that easy.

Dear Mr President, please ask your speech writer to type all numbers out in words, or at least read your speech beforehand.
