Top South African talk show radio host Redi Tlhabi has made waves in the Twittersphere, after it came to light that she was breastfeeding during the live broadcast of her radio show.
Tlhabi gave birth to her first child with husband Brian in October 2013, after earlier in the year admitting that they struggled to fall pregnant for some six years.
She has since spoken out in support of breast feeding, and in December resolutely tweeted: “Ag! If my breastfeeding in public – WITH MY BREAST COVERED – offends u, then don’t stare! Spare me the disapproving look. MY CHILD WILL DRINK”
Standing strong in her convictions, the renowned journalist and talk show host on Wednesday breast fed her new baby during the broadcast of her Talk Radio 702 show, a decision hailed by Milk Matters, a human milk bank dedicated to providing pasteurised breast milk to premature infants who do not have access to their own mother’s milk.
They tweeted: “@RediTlhabi working mom breastfeeding such a prime example of how you can do BOTH! Amazing support for bf moms!”
She also received praise from former Mail and Guardian editor Anton Harber, who wrote: “Yeah, #RediThlabi, breastfeeding while doing her show on #702. Good for you!”
And from a fan, who backed her decision while admitting that it was a bit odd.
Tweeted the supporter: “I love @RediTlhabi it was difficult listening this morning knowing that she was breastfeeding while on air! #Dedicated”
