South Africa’s alternative option, TopTV for satellite television is in decline, after losing another two channels. This won’t bode well with viewers following FoxRetro’s sudden disappearance from TopTv’s bouquet.
TopTV’s lack of customer interaction has really been a detriment to their success, and many viewers are opting out of the service because of the dramatic lack of communication. On Friday the Top Explore channel was suddenly replaced by the Spark Channel.
Apparently, more channels are set to be axed as the organization enters crunch discussions with distributors to save its service and to maintain its viewership.
TopTV’s caused is not aided by Multichoice’s continued success with DSTV going from strength to strength and, unlike TopTV, managing to interact with viewers on a regular basis.
TopTV’s main asset in the past has been their considerably cheaper service fees compared to Multichoice’s DSTV bouquets; but customers and viewers are becoming disillusioned with the service to the point where the price difference means little. There’s no point in paying less, if you’re not getting what you’re promised in return.
It remains to be seen whether TopTV will be around for much longer; their lack of success doesn’t bode well for anybody who plans to challenge the giant that is Multichoice.
