Comedy Central has also come to Trevor's defence following the controversy caused the comedian's old tweets.

Trevor Noah has made both positive and negative headlines this week. The South African comedian, who was announced as the new host of The Daily Show, also found himself in hot water. After news about his new gig was made public, some people found a reason to hate on him instead of congratulating him. His old tweets about women, Jews and Israel surfaced and created a lot of controversy.

One tweet read: "Oh yeah, the weekend. People are gonna drink & think I'm sexy. - Fat chicks everywhere." While another one read: "South Africans know how to recycle like Israel knows how to be peaceful."

This resulted in Trevor being labeled as a racist and a woman basher, among other things. But the comedian has now set the record straight about his tweets, which clearly offended the masses. He took to Twitter and wrote: "To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn’t land is not a true reflection of my character, nor my evolution as a comedian."

Comedy Central also came to Trevor's defence. The channel wrote: "Like many comedians, Trevor pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included. To judge him or his comedy on a handful of jokes is unfair. Trevor is a talented comedian with a bright future at Comedy Central."

We hope that settles it!
