Calling for help after the incident at a function in Botswana, Motene on Saturday morning tweeted: “I need assistance from SA, I was beaten in Botswana and currently in Bokamo hospital, police wont come and I need assistance! No Joke.”
The actress opened up to the Daily Sun about the incident after she was flown back to South Africa on Saturday afternoon.
She visited Botswana in her capacity as ambassador for anti-violence campaign One Billion Rising for Justice, and also to support fellow activist and artist Berry Heart at her book launch. Motene says her trip started off pleasantly with a drink and light dinner in the Sky Lounge on Friday evening.
“We had a great time, then we went to another event,” she told the publication.
“I was with Berry Heart, Simba Mudereri, and a friend only known as David. We were chilling at the pool deck when this guy came shouting at David, as I turned around he punched me right in my face and broke my nose.
“He refused to apologise. We told security and management but they refused to help, saying they knew who the man was and didn’t want to get involved. They also refused to call the police.
“An official from the SA High Commission arrived and called the Botswana cops who came and took a statement.”
The son of high-flying tycoon Ophaketse Gaobakwe, Bissau Gaobakwe is no stranger to controversy, with a checkered past that includes a conviction for attempted murder, for which he spent a mere six months in jail.
