By Tamlyn Canham on 30 December 2015 at 15:00 · Comments
It’s that time of the year again, when we get ready to ring in the new year and plan our goals.

Fitness is usually at the top of everyone’s to do list for for the New Year, so we decided to share some tips from one of our favourite stars.

Mzansi’s biggest celebrities practically lived in the gym in 2015. But one celeb whose road to fitness has inspired many, is radio DJ and singer Unathi Msengana.

Four years ago the Idols SA judge was on the overweight side, but has managed to completely transform her body.

Here are a few of the tips that helped her on her journey to an amazing body.

Workout and eat right

You cannot get the body of your dreams without spending a lot of time in the gym or exercising. Unathi was super strict when it came to her workouts in 2015, and kept up her routine even when she was feeling down or not in the mood. But exercise is only half the battle won, and eating right is just as important. She shared some of her Fit Day secrets in the January issue of Women’s Health SA. She makes sure she plans her meals for the day to avoid eating the wrong foods. She also eats healthy snacks, like a piece of fruit or half a cup of tree nuts, in between her main meals. “Eat things in their most natural form,” she told the magazine. “They’re best for your results.” Unathi also makes sure she drinks lots of water every day, and the first things she does when she wakes up in the morning is drink 750ml of water.

Say goodbye to stretchmarks

Once you get your amazing body, don’t let stretchmarks hold you back from showing off your abs. Unathi recently shared a homemade remedy to help get rid of stretchmarks. The gym regular swears by the method. You might not be able to get rid of them completely, but it looks like the remedy helped Unathi reduce their appearance.

“Ladies you asked if we could talk about STRETCH MARKS today. I have tried EVERYTHING but have found the best for me has been a concoction my best friend’s gran gave us. Mix Methylated spirit with Olive Oil with my aqueous cream. The skin stretches and shrinks as we go through the different phases in our lives. This leaves us with marks simply because our skin is dry and needs to be hydrated. It has taken time to REDUCE the APPEARANCE of my stretch marks which used to start from just above my knees to just above my breasts. Now they are ‘GONE’! Happy moisturising ladies! AND men because they can suffer from stretch marks too. BE PATIENT though,” she said on Instagram.

Believe in yourself

Unathi has been encouraging women all year to work on their fitness. One of her biggest messages is to never give up and always believe in yourself.

She said on Instagram recently: “Ladies!!!!! PLEASE, please, please believe that you can! We are not saying it's easy BUT we are saying you can! I see so many of you second guessing yourselves and doubting wether you can and how to start! Start NOW with your next meal! Start with a walk! Change water for drinks and juice. Follow people who will inspire you! DONT wait til Jan! We are here to help as we also seek and get help!”

Thanks for the tips, Unathi!
