We get fashionable with TJ Ngoma

Our field reporter, Sandy Nene took the time to chat to TJ Ngoma who is a socialite, qualified actor and Fleur RV host about his new venture as a fashion and celeb commentator at Cliff Central.

How did you land a gig at Cliff Central?

Well, my friend Laz applied for us to be on the station. Then we went in for a meeting to pitch our idea for the show. They then asked us to do a trial run LIVE on air and a week later, BOOM! We got the gig!

What's the name of your show and do you host it all by yourself or you have a co-host?

We call it "Style Twins". The show consists of me and my designer friend Laz Yani. We try to make each show fun and exciting, Its not too serious. Arye Kellman heads up the show and he brings the cuteness.

Have you ever presented before or worked in radio?

I used to present on campus radio (UCT Radio) when I was in varsity. But this is a whole other level, this is the big league!

Landing a radio show on Cliff Central must have been one of your greatest career highlights. Tell me more about your reaction when you first heard the news?

Well, I was lying in bed, wondering whether to use my last bit of cash for groceries or shoes. Then an email came in from Cliff Central telling us that we had been chosen to be on air every week. My first reaction was pure and absolute joy! I ran straight to Laz's room to tell him and we were both so thrilled. Then after 5 minutes, the nerves kicked in. You start thinking of all the things that could go wrong! Luckily we had each other to boost our confidence.

What's your show about?

Our show is about chilling and having a kiki with your two fabulous queens. Talking fashion, trends and of course some celeb gossip. We believe that fashion is a language and a lifestyle. We give our listeners advice on fashion tricks and tips, where to shop to get the best for your bucks and also make fun of "busted" celebs, Lol!

We have many other radio shows which are focusing on the same features that you mentioned above, why do you think listeners would rate yours a 10?

The other day we had Amanda du Pont in studio with us, she asked "Why do you guys have to be so honest?" That's why our show is so great. We keep it 100, always serving the truth, no matter how brutal. You'll have two big, fabulous queens giving you the in's and out's of style and fashion. Dont believe me? Listen for yourselves!

Did you propose the show or did you audition/apply to join Cliff Central?

We had to apply first! Then we were called in for a meeting to pitch our show idea with Gareth Cliff's team. A week later we came in for an on air trial run and the rest is history!

You mentioned 'trends' do you consider yourself as a trend setter?

Haha! I'm more a trend modifier. Trends come and go and not every trend is meant for you. I'm quite big, so not everything I put on fits me the way it should. That's why I prefer to take a trend and change it up to suit my own personal style. It's more fun that way because you can be your very own trend setter.

What has been missing in radio that you have brought to radio lovers?

We have definitely brought some colour to radio, PINK print!!. We also bring our expertise to the table, I'm a stylist and personal shopper and Laz is a SAFW fashion designer. So we know what we're talking about- well, most of the time anyway!

I believe you have acting experience? Tell me more about that?

Yes! I'm a trained actor, I studied theatre at UCT Drama School. I've acted in movies and TV shows as well and I actually have a movie coming out soon where I played a lead role, The movie is called iSkhwama on Mzansi Magic so look out for that, it’s hilarious.

Did you study drama or is it pure natural talent?

I studied but acting also came naturally to me. It’s always good for every actor to fine tune their talent. It gives you more confidence and experience as an artist.

You seem to be quite the busy person besides your radio show, what else is TJ busy with?

TJ is also doing tons of presenting for a mobile app fashion channel called "Fleur TV". To watch me you download the "Tuluntulu" app on your iPhone or Android device, click "Fleur TV" and you'll see me do my thaaaaang! Its tons of fun i'm having a blast doing it. Other than that im still acting and pursuing my entertainment career. Watch this space!!
