What's Hot: What happened to kwaito group New Age?

We take a stroll down memory lane and look back at the kwaito group, New Age.

The South African entertainment industry has had its fair share of child stars who once dominated the TV and music industry. One band we had completely forgotten about was kwaito trio New Age, which consisted of Bongani Fassie, Chicco Twala’s son and one other young lady.

Although the group had a short run, their music was thoroughly enjoyed back in the 90s.

We vividly remember the music video to their hit single Uyajola, which consisted of the trio riding around the hood in a black BMW convertible. If you were a kid at the time and knew about that particular video, we’re sure you envied those kids as much as we did.

PS: Can South African artists of the 80s and 90s please upload their music videos on YouTube? They might be of poor quality, but the nostalgic effect on us does wonders!

Who also remembers the song, Gogo Tsotsi

Before Bongani Fassie joined the group, we also remember that the trio first had another group member who was from the States. After their first album dropped, the young man disappeared and was replaced by Bongani Fassie.

The group also released a track called Amen/Tsaphelo, which was a kwaito version of a gospel song that actually gained quite a lot of success before the group disappeared. The group might've not had a long run in the music industry, but we sure enjoyed the songs they released back then.
