Ukhozi FM radio personality Khatide Tshatha Ngobe saw his entire life flash in front of his eyes after three heavily armed men held him at gunpoint during a robbery at an Engen garage in Morningside, KZN.
According to iSolozwe, Khatide was one of the customers in the garage who was forced to lay down on the floor whilst the thugs robbed an armored truck.
The robbers managed to flee with a couple of bags of money whilst Khathide and the rest of the customers lay on the garage floor.
The near-death experience had Khathide so shook up that he shared the story with his Facebook followers and even mentioned it on his drive time show on Ukhozi FM.
Khathide mentioned that he will never forget this gut-wrenching experience
“Ever since I was born, I’ve never been held at gunpoint!
“Workers of the armored truck came to collect money at the Engen Garage with the Woolworths store in Morningside around 8:30am.
"Me and a couple of ladies who work there were just chatting whilst I was paying at the counter when three men barged in. One of them went directly to the security guard who was collecting the money whilst the other man fired a gun in the air and demanded everyone in the garage to lay down.
"I thought these guys were playing so I stood up, then he turned the gun at me and said: ‘Voetsek, lay down, don’t look at me.’
"That’s when it really hit me that this was a real robbery.”
Khathide said that he was grateful that no one was hurt in the ordeal. He also now realises that life is quite fragile and that you can lose it any day.
According to reports, the robbery is still under investigation.
At least Khathide and the other people in the garage were left unharmed.
