Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye may receive parole this year.

Monday is upon us and one of the stories that caught our attention this past weekend was that of musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and the possibility of him receiving parole.

The singer, who was involved in a drag racing homicide in 2010 which resulted in the deaths of four teenagers, received a 25-year jail sentence after he and his friend, Themba Tshabalala, were found guilty.

However, in a recent report by Sunday World, it’s been revealed that the singer, who has a son with Kelly Khumalo, may be granted parole in December.

Speaking to the newspaper, Correctional Services spokesman Singabhakho Nxumalo explained the process.

“In terms of DCS (Department of Correctional Service) policy, an offender does not apply for parole but will automatically be considered for possible placement on parole once a certain portion of his sentence has been completed.”

Nxumalo also emphasised that there are many factors that play a role in Jub Jub possibly receiving parole. One of those factors includes the victims' families, who need to be consulted and their opinions taken into consideration before any parole is granted.

According to the newspaper, the families of the victims still want an apology from the musician. One of the parents of the deceased teenagers commented that if the musician came to them and apologised, he may consider agreeing to let Jub Jub receive parole.

What are your comments on this matter? Should Jub Jub receive parole?
