He is now helping other people who are struggling with the same addiction, particularly people from his hometown, Eersterust, Pretoria.
Kabelo will be embarking on a march against the use of drugs on Saturday, 2 April.
This is not the first time the multi-talented musician will be tackling the issue of drugs in his hometown. He led the same march in 2000 when he came out of rehab.

The TV personality, who recently released his autobiography I Ran for my Life, told Daily Sun: "I realised that the scourge in Eersterust has worsened. We have to go back and pick up where we left off. You can’t do enough messaging.
"I’m one sip of whisky away from a relapse. The community needs to hear from people who are clean that drugs can be beaten," he told the publication.
The march will is endorsed by the Gauteng Social Development Department and will be followed by an address by Kabelo at the stadium.
