What's Hot: Lungisa ready for life after Idols

Idols SA’s Lungisa Xhamela was the latest contestant to be voted off the singing competition, but he tells ZAlebs he has big plans for his career.

Fans were shocked when host Proverb announced that Lungisa was the next contestant to leave the show on Sunday night.

However, Lungisa says he was not all that surprised.

“Honestly, I was not really surprised, and that doesn’t mean that I didn’t trust myself as an artist or I didn’t really do well, because I did awesome. But I just didn’t think that the votes were going to be enough, and I felt it,” he told ZAlebs.

Idols SA judge Randall Abrahams is famous for telling contestants they are only as good as their last performance.

But Lungisa says he would not have performed his last song any differently. He performed Cyndi Lauper’s hit Time After Time.

“I wouldn’t really have done it differently; I think I did very well. It’s just that the votes were not enough,” he said.

Lungisa has already been approached by people in the music industry who want to work with the talented 25-year-old.

“It’s not the end, it is definitely the beginning of my career. I’ll be using Idols as a platform to boost me as an artist. A lot of opportunities are opening up already. I can’t wait and I am so excited.”

The Port Elizabeth native says he also hopes to take up acting.

“I want to try an acting venture. I want to get into that scene and see how it goes.”

There are just seven contestants left in the show, and Lungisa says the race is too tight to predict who will take home the prize.

He hopes his appearance on the show will inspire others to follow their dreams.

“If you believe in yourself and you work hard, anything is possible. Don’t be afraid to chase your dreams. Don’t listen to what anyone else has to say, just follow your dreams, work hard, and you will become successful.”
