What's Hot: Mos Def’s family can remain in SA… for now

Mos Def's wife and children can stay in South Africa for another week.

The family of US rapper Yasiin 'Mos Def' Bey will remain in South Africa – at least for another week.

The Western Cape High Court on Wednesday extended an interim order that prevents the family from being deported, while Yasiin’s case, for contravening the Immigration Act, is being heard, Sowetan Live reported.

The Travelling Man rapper was arrested at Cape Town International Airport in January while trying to leave the country using unrecognised documents.

He was apparently in possession of a “world passport”.

His wife and children, whose visas had expired in 2014, were given two weeks to leave the country.

But Yasiin’s lawyers lodged an application earlier this month requesting that his family be allowed to stay in SA until his criminal case is heard.

The matter was postponed to Friday, February 26, while Yasiin is set to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court in March to face charges under the Immigration Act.
