Nomuzi Mabena has been steadily placing her feet into the hip hop industry with her latest feature in Kid X’s single Se7en. However, many questioned Nomuzi’s rapping skills as she had never rapped before, and featuring in one of Cashtimes’ most prized rappers was quite a big deal in the hip hop fraternity.
Speaking on Katch it with Mbau, Nomuzi assured people that being a part of the Cashtime family wasn’t easy, just because she was an MTV VJ and the coolest entertainment personality in Mzansi, she actually had to go through a lot of ground work before being accepted as an artist by the Cashtime team.

“I work for MTV, so being around that type of environment for two years just got me so into music and the business side of music but then I also realised that it wasn’t going to work if I just approached K.O on some ‘Yo, I’ve got the swag you’ve got the rhymes let’s do this.’
The music had to be authentic, so I had to go through months of artist development and training, only last year in November was I signed to Cashtime, but even then I still had to wait because I needed to make sure that the music I put out is good music and not just cheesy music because I was coming into hip hop and it’s hard because people are out here making really good music.”
Known for her cool-kid demeanour and killer style, Nomuzi admitted that she actually got all her fashion swag from her mom and older sister:
“My mom was always the one person who helped me piece out an outfit, especially for civvies day at school. My mom used to take me to those dingy corners in town and we would put clothing outfits together. I also used to wear a lot of my older sister’s clothes too because she was just so cool, so without even knowing it, that’s where my love for fashion started.”
