Wow! How time flies, multi-award winning gospel singer and presenter Dr Rebecca Malope is officially celebrating 30 years in the industry.
She’s released 36 chart breaking albums, sold millions of copies, and honored by institutions of higher learning.
You would think that with all the success she’s garnered all these years Dr Rebecca Malope would be slowing down and marveling at her success, but nope!
There’s no stopping the gospel singer who continues to entertain South Africa on current shows like Clash of The Choirs.
For us who were still young to remember, South Africans were first introduced to a young Rebecca on the talent show, Shell Road to Fame and since then there has been no turning back.
Rebecca has had successful collaborations with the likes of the late Vuyo Mokoena, Sizwe Zako and Jabu Nkabinde.
She also has a few firsts in her name:
She was the first black artist to perform at the State Theatre in Pretoria after the unbanning of apartheid.
She is the first South African artist to have her song, Uthando Lwam’ included in the American Christian Churches hymn book.
She has been an ambassador for Cell C, Sunlight Soap and a brand of Korean pots.
Not bad for a woman who grew up in the rural township of Lekazi, near the Kruger National Park, dropped out of school and still managed to make a name for herself.
