“So, you just blog”? This is often the response I get from well-to-do people who are still figuring out Facebook as a marketing tool. Yes, I blog. I don’t really write on my blog but I write for a variety of magazines and websites. I have been known to work as a stylist on a good few fashion editorials and retail ad campaigns and I also offer a helping hand to busy ladies who can’t find the time to find their own outfits. Sometimes, my garage looks like something out of Hoarders, and I have to sign myself up for a weekend market to flog all these stylish treasures. I’m a fashion hustler who loves every part of my “not so straight forward” job.
I started off as a determined young Durbanite ready to change the world. Off I set on my version of adventure. I headed down under and studied in Australia where I completed a Bachelor of Media and majored in Politics.
Somehow I thought I would survive wearing Khaki and Camo whilst unraveling stories of political conspiracy. Thankfully the world of fashion enveloped me and before I knew it, I was Fashion and Beauty Editor at a national magazine. I had a whirlwind affair in the corporate world of retail and by chance found myself in the corner office at a publication once again. This time I was now Editor of Saltwater GIRL magazine. I'm utterly obsessed with making pretty things or with making things look pretty, and each day I poured my heart and soul into the pages that make up a magazine.
Unfortunately, working for a teen mag while nearing the age of 30, came with its own set of challenges. Being the adventurer that I am, I took a wild leap of faith and decided to brave the world of freelance and here I am, your new style consultant!
Each week I’ll bring you ZAleb style tips and gossip you won’t want to miss. We’ll chat to local designers, I’ll share my style secrets and we’ll have a little giggle at absurd trends.
Until next week!
