South Africa has become one of numerous countries across the globe to create its very own, localised music video to Pharrell William's hit song 'Happy'.
Created by Julie Fersing and Loïc Fontaine from France, the wearehappyfrom.com website contains hundreds of videos inspired by the official music video for Pharrell's new single, from his latest album 'G I R L'.
And the City of Cape Town recently added its name to the long list of places supporting the French duo's efforts to "get people to understand what a hit this song is, and display happiness all around the world, with this video and the music clip it originated from".
The original music video for 'Happy' features a host of people dancing around various parts of Los Angeles, and so lends itself to the idea of filming happy, dancing people in different locations across the world.
Pharrel's music video is special, though, in the sense that it features the glee of many famous people, among them Steve Carrell, Jimmy Kimmel, Jamie Foxx, Magic Johnson, Kelly Osbourne, and the amusing minions from the 'Despicable Me' animated films.
The 'We Are Happy from Cape Town' video was directed by Shamiel Soni and Tannan Woods, and produced by Nicki Priem, and shows off the many beautiful people and locations in the city.
Speaking to e.tv, Nicki said of their wishes for the video: "We want it to go viral! We'd love to get as many hits as possible. The more people who sees it and are affected positively by it, the happier we'll be. I hope Pharrell sees it! That would make us happiest, I think. It's great what he's done with this video and the message of happiness. Hopefully, as a team, we're able to produce a few more videos together."
