In honour of you, our fabulous readers, we want to help you get just as glam as some of your favourite stars! Next week, we'll reveal all the exciting details about our zalebrity makeover competition that we'll be running from 1 April and tell you exactly how to enter!
In the meantime, we caught up with mother and daughter dream team, Fay and Megan Coleman of Image Insured - an image consultancy firm based in Durban. Megan and Fay have come on board as the official sponsors of this super cool competition. One lucky reader will win herself a complete makeover worth more than R50 000!
Tell us about Image Insured and the decision to work together?
Image Insured is an image consulting company that focuses on helping our clients reach their full potential. Fay trained with an international Canadian company “Colours in Harmony” 27 years ago and Megan joined the business after handing over her crown as Miss South Africa in 2007. We realised that we had a winning combination with a mother/daughter duo because we represented two generations. As a result our clients as young as 14 and as old as 84 feel comfortable with us!
What are the future goals for the business?
We have exciting plans to grow image insured into a one stop shop where clients can receive every beauty service they are looking for. Our main goal this year is to start an Image Insured hair salon so that clients can leave feeling completely transformed. We are about to launch an online make-up store so that people around the country will have access to the Kryolan make-up range we use on our clients. Next month we are also launching our spray tan salon. So there are lots of plans in the pipeline!
Describe your personal style…
Fay: I have a natural / classic clothing personality, so I love jeans and casual clothes but also enjoy a more fitted structure and elegant look.
Megan: I have a natural / dramatic clothing personality, so I also love jeans and casual clothes but I HAVE to be in the latest trends at the same time! I love high heels and all the girly things but its so important to mix your clothing personalities together to find the perfect balance.
How do you determine the best style for your clients?
The reason our makeovers are so successful is that we always get to ‘the core’ of who our client is and enhance that, teaching them to create their own style. We never just take what we like an put onto a client, but we assess the clients body shape and balance their body with the use of style to create the illusion of a perfect figure. We also do a ‘clothing personality’ test with them to determine what their individual clothing personality is (natural / romantic / classic / dramatic), and then we shop accordingly. As a result they feel comfortable in everything we buy for them.
You also help clients edit their wardrobes – is this difficult?
Because we have always done the ground work before a client’s ‘wardrobe analysis’, it is never a difficult task. It is actually lots of fun and quite liberating for the client as we get rid of everything that is the wrong colour, style and clothing personality. Often the client is not left with much when we are finished which is why a shopping spree is so important.
Have you had any awkward moments when a client hasn’t want to let go of something?
Yes fairly often, as people often do tend to get attached to items that really don’t suit them, we often find hoarders who not only fill their own cupboards but also take over their husbands cupboards, their children’s cupboards and the guest room cupboards with things they haven’t worn in the past 10 years but desperately want to hang onto.
