While we excel in bringing you the hottest entertainment news from Mzansi and beyond, we at ZAlebs HQ do admit that we are lacking in a bit of fashion knowledge. Thankfully, we have friends in Top places (You'll get it in a moment) And when we were invited to the official opening party for SA Fashion Week, we knew we'd be covered. Top Shop Stylist, Nicole Faria Samuels, embodies the very definition of the word "Fashionista" with her impeccible eye for clothing, trends and style. We sent her out to the SAFW opening party to see what we could expect from this year's fashion week.
SA Fashion Week kicked off in full swing Wednesday night at the official opening party in association with Jameson. Acorn Lane was the bustle of the intimate Fashion Week Opening Party, drawing in the elite fashionistas of South Africa, and the oh so loved Mzansi celebrity trend setters.
Nicole will have been glad to spot Boity Thulo repping Top Shop
Standouts of the evening included; Sashi Naidoo in a Dolce & Gabbanna silk print dress and Jimmy Choo stilettos as well as Sonia Booth, who wore a 60’s pop inspired baby doll dress and slick ponytail. Pearl Thusi looked current in a rose champagne floor length gown; Dineo Moeketsi looked stunning in minimal grey-silver dress, while Boity, (Pictured above) rocked a chic green Topshop jumpsuit with an open back and lace trimmings and Jay Anstey wore a Gert Johan black dress with feather detail.
Trends spotted for the evening were rich fabrics as well as touches of green. Classic black is in its stride despite the commencement of spring season, along with classic shades of nudes. Open back silhouettes, tulle skirts for the ballerina in us all and plaid prints were all to be seen. Also worth a mention was the sighting of Asian inspired mixed prints- a refreshing move away from last season’s hybrid print obsessions.
If the opening party is anything to go by, we are sure that the South African fashion lovers and trend followers will ignite red carpets in the latest trends, colours and prints. A crowd that we're sure will rightfully match the flawless South African designer line-up, who never fail to inspire, steal a breath or cause a camera flashing frenzy.
If you happen to suffer from any fashion mishaps, make sure to pop in at Top Shop in Sandton for some one-on-one styling tips from the trendy stylista herself Nicole Samuels.
