Arno, it has been nearly a year since the release of Atari Gala. It is without a doubt one of your best releases. How has the journey been for you after the album's release? Are you happy with how the album has been received?
Yes, as a whole it is my favourite solo album. I’m proud and content with the piece of work as a whole.
Atari Gala is an introspective and very personal album. It explores concepts like death and sorrow on one hand and concepts like joy and rebirth on the other. What made you decide to record a concept album? Tell us more.
I had a very clear idea about what the album should feel and sound like, so yes, I can understand if it comes across as personal but the understanding of the concept is a journey that comes with age I guess. I try to take the concept further by giving the videos the same feel.
One of our favourite tracks from the album is 'Battlescars Galactica' . What is the song and video about?
I got the opening line from SA news on TV - "Blow to the head this is a blunt force trauma". It's violent, yet light-hearted . It represents an unhealthy relationship that everyone has at least once some time or another in their lives; hence the different scenarios in the video.
While many just associate you with music; you are an extremely talented man with a paint brush. Tell us about your art and the Arno Plus art exhibition. Are any of your artworks still available for purchase and where can we see more?
Well, yes, I still have a long way to go but it's fun. It is something I have been doing since I was at school, since before I started making music. More info at www.arnocarstensfineart.com.
Where do you get your inspiration from for your music and art?
It comes from the same place . My music and art is a reflection of how I see the world.
What is happening with the Springbok Nude Girls nowadays? Are you guys still together? Are you planning any new material as a band or any gigs?
We are doing 1 show this year. Next year we will be 20 years old so we will do some kind of nice big show. We might record something this year but all the guys are very busy, so we'll have to see.
What has been the highlight and Lowlight of your career so far?
This music adventure as a whole must be the highlight of my life. The ups... The downs... It's all good! Success will be followed by lows, just try and not let it get to you
