When we think of Sonia Mbele, the first thing that pops into our mind is her iconic character Ntombi on the original Generations and that is surprising because the actress and businesswoman has achieved so much success before and after her stint on the show.

Sonia has been in the entertainment industry for almost three decades and over time, she has managed to consistently reinvent herself. From being the face of brands to showing off her acting chops to even going behind the camera, there is nothing the star can not successfully do.

The beauty who is responsible for bringing The Real Housewives franchise to South Africa recently bagged a new gig on the third season of Netflix's hit, Blood and Water.

According to Phil Mphela, Sonia will appear in the highly anticipated show. In the season finale of the second season, Sonia left fans wanting more after she made a cameo.

When Sonia is not acting or producing well-loved shows, she is focused on expanding her ever-growing empire. In 2021, Sonia announced that she would be branching into the water business with a company called Alkamax that provides' supercharged water with speed'.

According to her, it is the first black-owned Alkaline water company in South Africa and she wants her company to help solve the water crisis in our country while also curbing the unemployment problem.

"Hey yall, I got a new baby Alkamax: Supercharged Water with speed. Alkamax is a first black-owned, proudly South African company," she excitedly
wrote in part.

Sonia is not the only former Generations actor that has successfully branched out into the world of business. Connie Ferguson has been making money moves for several years, the actor, producer, and businesswoman was one of the first black women in South Africa to have a range of skin products that are widely available in big retail stores.

However, in 2017, Connie reached a stumbling block when another company reportedly sued her. According to reports, Connie Ferguson’s business was reportedly sued for similarities in their products.  The company which produces Nivea allegedly deemed the range of shower gels and lotions, named Connie Bodycare as an identical copy of their products.

After the case was heard by a judge, it was reported that Judge Denise Fisher of the Johannesburg High Court ruled in favour of the cosmetics giant. She concluded her ruling by saying that the similarities between Nivea and Connie's product packaging had the potential to mislead consumers because of its colour and branding.

Another star who became an instant sensation because of her time on Generations is Carol Bouwer, the former actress was introduced to us when she played the role of Kgomotso on the popular soapie, but since then, the super-private star has made her mark in the world of business and according to several reports, she is now one of the wealthiest women in this part of the world.

Carol also has a range of high-end handbags which cost thousands of rands and the most affordable bag in the range does not cost less than R10 000.
