Basit “Joker Boy” Adebayo claimed the headline victory at Saturday’s Chaos in the Ring show, stopping Said Mohamed Hassan in the second round at the Balmoral Convention Centre inside Lagos’ Federal Palace Hotel on Victoria Island.
Chaos in the Ring results
- Yusuf Adeniji defeated Rilwan Lawal by unanimous decision in their super-featherweight clash, with the judges scoring it 79-72, 78-73 and 78-73.
- Suleiman Jafaru produced the card’s standout shock by knocking out former British super-welterweight champion Samuel Antwi. Afterward, Balmoral Promotions signed Jafaru to a promotional deal, while event sponsor EV Automobiles presented him with a car.
- Michael Babalola maintained his unbeaten professional record by outpointing Abidemi Rabiu unanimously.
- Shiloh “Sugar Shy” Defreitas also earned a unanimous-decision win, defeating Ghanaian welterweight Eric “Kojo” Quarm.
Following his stoppage victory, Adebayo said he was prepared to become Nigeria’s leading boxing figure and believed he already held that status. He added that he had expected the contest to reach the fifth round, having promised Hassan that distance, but was determined and fully prepared when the opportunity to finish the fight came in round two.
The evening also featured a five-round celebrity contest between Anifowoshe “Mr. Real” Ibrahim and Idowu “Idowest” Adeyemi. Neither man was separated on the judges’ cards, resulting in a draw, and the pair will meet again on 1 October.
Dr Ezekiel Adamu, founder of Chaos in the Ring and managing director of Balmoral Group, said the show was created to provide a platform for emerging boxing talent from across Africa.
